Going Camping

Going Camping

Hello Everybody, here is what we are up to in Ardenza this week.
In the Baby room continuing on from the sensory theme this month, the babies are exploring  mud and sand. Suzanne will get some mud and mix it with water and will filter it to make sure there are no stones, pieces of material or insects in it and put it into a tray. It will be watered down to make it soft and the girls will encourage the babies to put their hands in. The same will be done for sand, there will be one tray of dry sand and one of wet so that the babies can feel the different textures. The girls will be on high alert for any sand or mud going near the face and aprons will be worn to protect clothing.
In the Toddler room Bernie and Shell are going  camping with the children! In circle time the girls will chat to the children about what camping is and ask the children if they have gone camping. They will chat about tents, sleeping bags, flasks and sleeping outside and read different stories on camping. One of the toddlers that moved upstairs to the preschool room has been camping recently at a festival so Bernie and Shell will ask him to come down and talk about what he did when camping and all the things he saw and heard! The girls will do role play setting up ‘tents’ using blankets and chairs and have great fun pretending to camp!
Upstairs in the preschool rooms it’s time to learn about the beach. In circle time Mary Ann, Lisa and Sarah will discuss what the beach is and get the kids to describe it. They will talk about the sand, seashells, starfish, jellyfish and all creatures that live at the beach and about toys and games you play with. The girls will show the children pictures of different sand castles and they will talk about clothes you wear at the beach. The girls will emphasise beach safety and do role play on how to be safe at the beach especially when near the water. The girls will give them dangerous situations to face and show them how to be safe. There will loads of glorious colourful arts and crafts done and the sand pit will be used. Hopefully weather will be nice so that they can do all this outside.
Have a great week!
