The Importance Of Teaching Road Safety To Young Children
Last week we had great fun upstairs with our new blackboard walls! It’s a great way for the kids to express themselves creatively and have fun with their friends. Apologies if there’s any colouring on the walls at home as a result of it! Here is what your loved ones are up to this week.
In the baby room Laura and Lisa are continuing with senses and focusing on taste. The girls will very interactive with the babies during feeding times, emphasising sounds like mmm and yummy and encouraging the babies to eat. If you would like your babies to try something new send it in and the girls will try and encourage the babies to taste it through actions and songs. It’s worth a shot as we find that some babies adapt to their surroundings and may imitate other babies eating. Laura will also have pictures of mouths and tongues and Lisa will do songs, sounds and actions to get the babies to use their tongues.
In the toddler room Bernie and Shell are doing trees with the kids. The girls will show them pictures of trees and take them outside to look at the trees Ardenza has. They will chat about the colours and sizes and how different they all can be. There will be colouring of trees and maybe even some fingerprint leaf trees for arts and crafts.
Upstairs is a joint theme and it is road safety. We did it during the summer but as there has been a change over with classes and new children we said it’s only fair the new children get to learn about it too.
Seeing as road safety is such an important aspect of your child’s learning we feel that experience is more valuable than discussion so the kids will be taking walks to the pedestrian crossing and back, stopping to watch and listen and look for cars on the road and in driveways. Mary Ann’s preschool class are a bit young to be going for the walks on the road so she will be doing walks and role playing situations out the back instead. Suzanne class will be doing both going for a walk and joining in on the learning outside. Each day we will try and do a different aspect of road safety as we have loads of stories, activities and certificates on road safety as Trisha and Suzanne completed a course on road safety last year and received loads of material on teaching it. If your child has a high visibility jacket send it in with them next week as the kids love wearing them! There will also be plenty arts and crafts on traffic lights, green and red man, zebra crossing and handprint holding hands. Hopefully the weather will be nice so that we can take our times on our walks!
Hope you all have a lovely week!
